The Sidewalk Cafe is a new eatery in Hagerstown, Indiana, located on State Road 38 between Richmond and New Castle (or off of I70 between Dayton, OH and Indianapolis, IN.)
The cafe, housed in what was once the original, historic Abbotts Candy shop (The Two Sisters), recently opened to rave reviews, offering casual dining, as well as carry out.
Their menu provides simple lunch options; however, the additional specialized flare from chef Wes Rayburn steps it up several notches! We tried a couple of sandwiches (the Focaccia Club and the classic Roast Ham), which were wonderful, but trust me, I am returning for one of the salads! They also serve a couple of soups.
Serving lunch from 11-3, The Sidewalk Cafe brings a healthy and delicious option to one small town in Indiana, as well as the surrounding rural area.
Wes also created an item I had never seen before, but was well worth the sugar rush. Grilled pound cake with a blueberry compote – it was that wonderful hint of the grill that set it apart. Utterly delectable.
To make your trip even sweeter, The Sidewalk Cafe is a part of owners Robin and Ed Nugent’s newly opened Christmas shop, Every Day is Christmas. Stop in and browse the Christmas collectibles. I promise, it will put you in the mood for the holidays! And might even get you a jump ahead on your gift shopping (or decorating.)
